At YKK, we are promoting the development of eco-friendly products that are kind to people, society and the global environment over the course of their individual product life cycles, following a concept defined by three keywords: Human-Friendly, Earth-Friendly and Social-Friendly. We do this in the aim of achieving a sustainable society.
YKK is helping lead sustainability in apparel, automotive, and industrial fields. Our eco-friendly buttons, snaps, and zippers are helping designers create today’s sustainable products.
Along with the above sustainable production, YKK will continues developing and introducing sustainable products. NATULON®, Organic Cotton, Lyocell zipper from Tencel™ fibers and GreenRise™ made from molasses are some of our representative sustainable products.
YKK has developed NATULON® zippers - a resource-conserving and recycling-oriented product made from PET bottles, old fiber and other polyester remnants. NATULON® zippers are produced either by chemical recycling or material recycling.
NATULON® Chemically Recycled
This zipper is designed for customers who wish to market their finished products as recyclable. The zipper is made from recycled material using a chemical process that facilitates further recycling.

NATULON® Mechanically Recycled NATULON® product lines are designed for customers who want to increase the recycled content of their products. They are made from recycled materials such as PET bottles using materials recycling technologies.
Lyocell Zipper from Tencel™ Fibers
This extremely soft to the touch material for dye-to-match zipper is made from Lyocell fibers, a biodegradable material from wood pulp. It is ideal for sensitive or delicate skin, absorbing moisture and drying faster than YKK’s standard cotton zipper. Furthermore, it reduces the growth of bacteria and existence of mites.
GreenRise™
We have developed a fresh idea leading to an innovative way to make zippers using plant-based material.
These zippers will be marketed based on our sense of social responsibility to contribute to the global environment through our products.
We use a safe and secure plant-based material whose raw component is molasses, a byproduct in the manufacturing of sugar.
Vislon® Nylon - a zipper for easier recycling
A zip is a complicated accessory, consisting of multiple elements that are difficult to separate. YKK introduces a new zipper where all parts are made of nylon. This sustainable zipper can be easily recycled together with the nylon garment on which it is sewn, without the need for removal.
AcroPlating®
Our AcroPlating® technology significantly reduces the environmental impact of finishes on zipper sliders, snaps, and buttons. The new process reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 96%, water usage by 66%, and power consumption by 69% in the manufacturing process when compared to conventional processes. The process also completely eliminates harmful chemicals, toxic waste and thermal energy usage.
